Christmas Bird Count Results

Del Dios Christmas Bird Count 2022

Each year around Christmas/New Year week, The National Audubon Society conducts a national bird count in conjunction with local volunteer groups around the country. This is Citizen Science working at its best. There are several local groups including the Del Dios group on the west banks of Lake Hodges. I joined them for their precursor count a few days before the actual count day. Unfortunately I could not join them on the chosen day but the link below points to the tabulated results posted by volunteer Aaron Polichar. Ironically some of the birds that I photograph the most, including the American White Pelican, were not on the list that day. Not to worry, a few days later, I found them relaxing on one of the mud banks.

With only one day for boat access on my short trip to San Diego, Brian was very instrumental in finding the Grebes while quietly positioning the boat to get the shots.
