Finally, some late winter rains!
The Lake has come up a few feet and this appears to have lit a fire under the Grebes. Both Clark’s and Western are suddenly in the throes of their courtship routines.
I’ve had a busy month. Thank you all for choosing me to be your guide. As most of you know, it makes my day and always puts a smile on my face when YOU get some keepers.

If you prefer not waiting until the end of the month to see my updates, please check in on my Instagram and Facebook Accounts, https://www.instagram.com/lakehodgesphototours/, https://www.facebook.com/LakeHodgesPhotoTours/.
🙂

And with the rainy overcast conditions, the light has been very balanced.

And always something to shoot while waiting for the next piece of Grebe action

Like this White Pelican. The pouch, feet and splash of really lend themselves to backlighting 🙂

And when walking the shore it’s not unusual to see a coyote or 2.

We’ve had a large,(1000+), colony of crows roosting at the North West corner of the Lake this winter and one of the local Harriers has not been too impressed….

The swallows have not been remotely concerned with the recent the rain. In fact on this day I walked the shore during a deluge to find Tree, Cliff, Violet Green and Northern Rough Winged Swallows, all happily hunting the small insects buzzing around.

Having landed, the stationery birds allowed me to slow the shutter speed down enabling me to really capture the weather at its finest 😉

I don’t usually take selfies…… but……. Occassionally one of the swallows would land VERY close, as can be seen in the photo. If you zoom in on the bird’s eye, that’s me with my umbrella in the reflection.
As a performing musician whose performed to over 20,000 live in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, I’m not shy
So it’s no surprise that I’ve become quite adept at hosting presentations on Lake Hodges and its wildlife, either live or virtual, the next one being this Thursday.
Feel free to reach out regarding presentations, I can speak with emphasis on photography, conservation, education, or all three…. I can even bring my guitar
And a reminder of my New Website for purchasing my ART.
One of my favorite aspects of the site is the way in which a potential print can be hung on a mockup of the room in which it’s intended. The room can be changed, the wall color can be changed, and even a photo loaded of the ACTUAL room. Shop with confidence that the print will indeed compliment the room and décor. https://www.lakehodgesphototours.art/shop-art
Please contact me directly by email if interested in heading out on the Lake or walking the area for any photography or videography. The Lake has only a limited number of days each week / season open for boating. Walking and hiking is accessible any day, 365 days a year. Feel free to share on your preferred Social Media, and subscribe at the foot of this page.
Until next month
